About Us

We are a group of people from all walks of life who believe in the importance of looking into reconciliation.

Our hope is that by opening a conversation we may be able to appreciate and understand the difference perspectives relating to this complex but very critically important subject.

We are bringing a team of people together united by a desire to learn and to get a deeper understanding of Reconciliation.

Our History

The Article 116 Reconciliation Project seeks to provide information and guidance and to facilitate reconnection and reconciliation, particularly to those whose families were formerly deprived of German citizenship.

Our approach and ethos has always been to build bridges; we seek to communicate constructively, with integrity and with respect to all

Why?

We are frequently being asked how we manage to go from campaigning to correct an injustice to be now responding to the need some have expressed to work towards reconciliation and why we decided to do this.

It was a journey that began when people started telling us what the German Citizenship meant to them and how the help that they received from different German authorities made them realise that their German Citizenship was more than a passport its was a olive branch on which they wanted to build.

One of the reasons we decided to transition from Article 116 Exclusion Group to Article 116 Reconciliation Project was to assist those individuals who wanted to move forward with this process.

Today we are able to talk about reconciliation in the context of German Citizenship because from the outset the German Authorities actively engaged with Felix and Isabelle Couchman who campaigned to correct the then unjust rejection.

The German Government understood the importance of listening to the voices of those whose applications were rejected,  through their testimonies leading to this historic and far-reaching amendment to the law.

This is why today we are exploring the need for reconciliation together!
